DDP PLAYER

Audio playback, CD-Text, MD5 checksum.

Free, local, on your own device.

DDP PLAYER is a free app that opens DDP files (Disc Description Protocol) right in your browser. Everything happens locally — nothing is uploaded, there's no server, and your files stay on your device. It's built to check DDP images end to end: gapless playback (sample-accurate transitions), CD-Text, ISRC codes, barcode and PQ events, MD5 integrity verification of the master, and PQ Sheet export.

Frequently asked questions

  • A DDP (Disc Description Protocol) is the industry-standard way to deliver a finished CD master to a pressing plant. Instead of a physical disc, you're sending a digital image of the complete CD — everything the plant needs to manufacture it, in a format built to be checked and trusted. Every DDP carries an MD5 checksum, so the plant can confirm that the file landed exactly as it left, with nothing lost or corrupted along the way.

A DDP is more than just audio. It carries all the data that makes up your CD: the track order, where each track starts and stops, the gaps between songs, the ISRC code for every track, the album barcode (UPC/EAN), and the CD-Text that shows up on a player — album title, artist, track names. Together, that's everything the plant needs to press your disc precisely the way you signed off on it.

A DDP is built for the pressing plant. It's not a working file you'll reach for day to day — think of it as the master copy of record. Hang onto it, store it somewhere safe, and you'll have exactly what you need if you ever go back for another run.

  • Once you have your DDP, take the time to go through it properly before it ships. Three things matter. First, the audio: play the master end to end in its final running order, and listen closely to how the tracks flow and how the gaps sit between them. Second, the metadata: make sure the track titles, artist and album names are spelled right, and double-check the ISRC and UPC/EAN codes if they've been included — neither is mandatory. And last, the MD5 checksum, which tells you the file is intact.

To make that easy, I've put a DDP player online at www.climax-mastering.com/ddp-player. It runs everything in one place — playback, metadata and checksum — right in your browser, with nothing to download or install.

  • The player works entirely on your side: your file never leaves your machine and nothing gets uploaded to a server. It's read straight off your own computer or device, so there's no chance of your master slipping out or making the rounds before release day. Open it up wherever you like — desktop or phone — and check it in total privacy, no install required.

  • Building a DDP isn't something to rush. It's the final step of the mastering process — the point where your record is locked in for good, right before it goes to press. Whatever's in that file is what ends up on every copy, so there's no room for a slip. This is exactly the kind of job worth handing to someone who does it for a living, with the right tools and the experience to get every detail right. If you've got an album to finish, get in touch — I'll take it from your mixes all the way to a press-ready DDP.
